Sleeping Beauty - Music, Lyrics and Book by Trisha Ward

Conceived as both a feature film and a full scale stage musical, this is the first time this much-loved family fairy tale has been given a new contemporary score. The first workshop premiere performance of 'Sleeping Beauty' took place at 'The Venue' in London's Leicester Square when a cast of the West End's finest performers showcased the piece for the first time. Duncan James from chart topping vocal group 'Blue' played the dual roles of Prince Richard/Young Man, Lucy Evans (ITV's 'The Stepfather', C4's 'Hollyoaks') was Rosie/Briar Rose, Sally Dexter (ITV's 'Night and Day', 'Oliver!') played the roles of Mrs Dustjacket/Malica and the workshop premiere was narrated by Michael Maloney ('Truly Madly Deeply', 'Notes on a Scandal').

Three further presentations of the musical at Sadlers Wells featured Amanda Donohoe (Malica/Mrs Dustjacket), the voice of Richard Briars (Ferdinand the Frog) and Simon Bailey (Prince Richard/Young Man). The workshops were directed by John Stephenson (director of hit films 'Five Children and It' and 'Animal Farm') and choreographed by Arlene Phillips (Strictly Come Dancing, We Will Rock You, Saturday Night Fever) - Phil Edwards was musical supervisor ('Starlight Express'/'Saturday Night Fever').

The feature film version of 'Sleeping Beauty' is currently in development and will be the first live action feature film of this story.

The first single release from Sleeping Beauty, "If I Could Cry" performed by up and coming young Irish tenor Paul Byrom ("Celtic Thunder"), is to have its worldwide release in October 2009.
